The Pima County Board of Supervisors is set to consider two dueling proposals that would change and update the zoning code dealing with marijuana dispensaries and other related productions sites.

And one proposal could add additional hurdles for recent social equity dispensary winners.

According to Chris Poirier, the deputy director with Pima County Development Services, it’s not the first time staff and the Planning and Zoning Commission have disagreed and submitted separate proposals.

But in his over 20 years with the county, he says it’s a rare occurrence.

“I wouldn’t say it’s the first time,” Poirier said. “But we’re just so focused on zoning and it’s our job to advise our elected officials. We’re gonna continue to advise what we think is the right decision to make.”

The whole issue comes down to something called a “conditional use permit.”
